Józef Grudzień had a great career in boxing as the winner of two Olympic medals (gold in Tokyo 1964, silver in Mexico City 1968), coach and member of the Polish Olympic Committee, but at heart he remained an amateur in the noblest sense of the term, never seduced by the glitz and money of Big Sport. After he retired, he set up a foundation to build a home for elderly sportspeople in the Olympic Training Center in Spala, Poland, and is also a local social activist in his neighborhood, north of Warsaw. A great man of sport but also an advocate for those less fortunate, and on top of all this - an extremely nice, modest person.
